Since 2007, I have been involved with Kia’s overseas promotional activities, including major motor shows and test drive events.
The following is the highlight of Kia Press Conference at the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show:
The 13th International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition, commonly known as 2009 Shanghai International Motor Show, was held April 20-28, 2009. This particular show help quite a few surprising elements that were in contrast to other major motor shows in recent years.
With the worldwide recession, no industry has been immune to its effects but the auto industry has felt it especially hard. As such, a few renowned auto makers made the decision to withdraw from prominent motor shows around the world. Kia has refused to opt out of the opportunity to reach out to car enthusiasts and industry makers, however. And China was no different.
The sheer size of Shanghai Motor Show was an impressive 170,000㎡ (or 1,830,000ft2), about the size of 24 football stadiums. 1,500 automotive industrial companies participated and delivered their individual messages to 600,000 visitors. Most powerful global auto brands participated in this special automotive festival, each of them striving hard to showcase their new models and technologies to Chinese customers – an increasingly important market for the global auto industry.
We introduced our all-new Sorento and Cerato (also know as Forte in some markets) during the press conference with the energetic beats of five Chinese drummers. The added bonus of a photo session with famous Chinese actor Ye Liu also drew in quite an impressive number of journalists and visitors
Overall, the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show was a memorable experience. Not only were the ‘surprising factors’ at the motor show a treat but this was also the very first motor show I’ve had the pleasure of attending! This experience can now influence plans for up and coming motor shows – providing our Kia fans with much more to look forward to. Stay tuned for what we have in store for our next shows in Moscow and Frankfurt!
