Kia tops J.D. Power IQS ranking two years running! July 14th, 2017
Kia has once again proven itself as a world-class quality automaker. J.D. Power, the renowned US marketing research firm, has named Kia the highest ranking brand in its annually Initial Quality Study (IQS).
Taking home this prestigious recognition for the second consecutive year, this year’s distinction may be the greatest yet, as Kia has shown the best performance of any brand in the 20 years of the study and received five segment awards – the most wins by any nameplate in this year’s study.
J.D. Power evaluates the quality of vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership, covering problems related to driving experience, engine and transmission. Overall performance is assessed by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles, where a lower score reflects higher quality. The IQS scores for 2017 were determined based on nearly 80,000 responses from vehicle owners in the United States.
Kia’s 2017 score of 72 was five points lower than that of the runner-up and eleven points better than last year’s evaluation. Our record-setting performance indicates that Kia is well on its way to becoming an industry leading quality brand.
Meanwhile, five Kia models – the Soul, Forte (Cerato), Cadenza, Niro and Sorento – were presented with separate segment awards, with the Soul taking top honors for the third straight year in the compact multi-purpose vehicle category. The Niro and Cadenza performed excellently as well, with the Cadenza emerging with the highest score among all vehicles in this year’s study.

Our defending champion title is the ultimate confirmation of the rigorous efforts and standards that Kia is carrying out in cementing our status as a world-class automaker. As a huge thank you to our fans and customers, we will continue to strive for market-leading quality and reliability across the entire Kia range of vehicles.
