For Kia, football fever didn’t end with the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in July. After supporting this year’s World Cup as an official sponsor, this month Kia turned to Canada to sponsor and support the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with transportation vehicles and various marketing events including the Kia Mascot Friends initiative.
When it comes to sports, Kia takes things pretty seriously. As the official sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, we had the chance to celebrate this mega sporting event with football fans from all over the world in Rio this year. Over the past month, there were indeed many surprises in Rio, as superstar teams went head-to-head for the title of best football team in the world. As the football festivities slowly come to an end, we wanted to take a look back on the variety of Kia-sponsored events held for our fans, tied together with the underlying theme of ‘Surprises Make Surprises.’
Kia Motors has been a rising star among the global automotive brands in terms of environmental friendliness, most recently ranking 35th out of 50 global brands in international brand consultancy, Interbrand’s 2014 Best Global Green Brands. Kia is one of ten automotive brands that made the top 50, and it has been climbing Interbrand’s Best Global Green Brands ranks since 2012.
Earlier this year, as a lead-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, World Cup official sponsor Kia and host FIFA teamed up for the “Power of Football” contest which kicked off today with the match between host country Brazil and Croatia. Our mission was simple: to find a story that demonstrated how football could inspire a local community. And what we found was more than just a touching football story in time for the 2014 World Cup, but a true example of inspiration that brought about a surprising change to a small town located on an island country off the coast of South America.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ is just a couple days away, and Kia is honored to be a continued partner. With a little help from supermodel Adriana Lima, Kia Motors America (KMA) is launching the “For One Month, Let’s All be Fútbol Fans” campaign, marked by a series of three TV commercials featuring Lima, the 2015 Optima midsize sedan and the Sorento CUV, a man cave, and a sports bar. Check out the commercials before they make their TV debut on June 12!
From May 30 to June 8, Kia wowed at the Busan International Motor Show with its “Neo-Futurismo” concept booth, featuring vehicles and technology pointing towards the future. All eyes were on the all-new Carnival (also known as the Sedona in some markets), which made its Korean public debut at the seaside city.
This summer, Kia is officially responsible for the transportation of all teams, officials, delegates and official VIP during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. As an Official Automotive Partner of FIFA, Kia handed over the 410-vehicle fleet during a handover ceremony at Arena de Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Last month, Kia hosted the annual Kia World Extreme Games in Shanghai, China, at the Jiangwen Sports Centre, bringing together extreme sports stars and fans alike from all around the world. Over the course of four days from late April to Early May, over 200 of the world’s best extreme sports athletes traveled to Shanghai from almost 30 countries including Brazil, Japan, China and New Zealand.

If you haven‘t noticed, we‘re very excited about this summer… As an Official Partner of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, Kia will be hosting a variety of events leading up to this mega sporting event celebrating football all over the world. We couldn‘t be more excited to partner with FIFA World Cup Brazil™, especially because of the rich football history embedded within the culture of many South American countries. So we thought, why not journey through the continent to ready ourselves for the international football event?
Born for Beijing
Specifically tailored for the Chinese market, the K4 concept car was finally unveiled in Beijing, at the 2014 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. What’s even more exciting is the news that the K4 concept car will come to life, as Kia plans production versions of the sedan to go on sale in the second half of this year, focused on targeting drivers with families.
Held at New York City‘s Jacob Javits Convention Center every spring, the New York International Auto Show is always a fun time for auto fans all around. Kia Motors America (KMA) brought along the newest member of our family, the 2015 Kia Sedona, to prove that a minivan can actually be… cool.
Kia believes in bringing people together, and what better way than through sports? Sporting events are always a source of great excitement and a grand display of friendly competition. Fan loyalty is particularly intense when the competition goes global.
