Kia sponsors FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final August 25th, 2017
In partnership with FIFA, Kia is now diving into the world of eSports!
Earlier this month, Kia Motors served as one of the main sponsors for this year’s FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC) Grand Final that took place in London. As the world’s largest gaming tournament, the 2017 FWIC invited gamers from all over the globe to vie for the title of the best EA SPORTS™ FIFA 17 player and the $200,000 USD (£154,000 GBP) prize purse.
The popularity and interest in gaming and the FIWC has grown tremendously over its 14-year history. Following the regional preliminaries in which over seven million participants took part, 32 finalists were selected to compete in the three-day Grand Final event at the iconic Central Hall Westminster in London. Kia served as the official automotive partner, providing a fleet of eight Kia Sorento vehicles to transport FIFA staff, competitors, guests and media.
After fierce competition, English gamer Spencer ‘GORILLA’ Ealing emerged as the new world champion. As the titleholder, GORILLA will have the opportunity to return to London to attend the 2017 Best FIFA Football Awards.
As if that weren’t enough, the championship trophy was handed over by none other than legendary Dutch footballer Ruud Gullit who was invited to the final round of the competition. Gullit has been one of the most popular players in the history of the FIFA video game series.
