Kia display a major hit at the 3rd Philippine international motor show September 8th, 2010

With live Siberian tigers to heighten interest on its new tiger-nose grille design, Kia showcased its latest car models sporting the brand’s trademark design at the 3rd Philippine International Motor Show last August 19-22, 2010 at the World Trade Center, Metro Manila. Thousands came to watch the new cars on display and a great number of them trooped to the Kia stand to see what’s with the new tiger-nose grille that is the hallmark of Kia’s new brand identity.

Columbian Autocar Corporation, the exclusive distributor of Kia vehicles in the Philippines had on central display the stylish luxury sedan Cadenza. It showcases the continuing evolution in Kia’s striking design language, presenting a new concept in luxury sedans in terms of performance and technology. Other units on display were the following: Kia Sorento in 7-seater and 5-seater variants, Kia Soul, Kia Forte Koup, Kia Rio and the Kia Picanto – all sporting the tiger-nose grille platform

Also, an elaborate presentation that attracted a large audience during the opening day highlighted Kia’s display at the PIMS. The show featured the dramatic performances of Dulce, the Madrigal Singers and Douglas Nierras’ Powerdance entitled “Nature Calls – A Night at the Savannah.” This musical and dance presentation related to the “Drive the Green Road” theme of the motor show.

Test drives of Kia vehicles were also made available during the four-day car exhibition to heighten visitors’ Kia experience.

KIA – I am very disappointed in your company that you felt that publicly displaying a live tiger (an endangered one at that!) was an appropriate marketing strategy. The fact that this took place in a country with low regard for wildlife or its protection also compounds my disappointment.

My impression of KIA has always been that of an innovative company targetting the younger, more environmentally conscious demographic. I guess this is now a misconception on my part.

Thank you for your comment about the recent event at the Philippines Motor Show. At Kia, we are committed to being responsible corporate citizens in the markets we serve globally. This particular tiger was handled by its trainers for the duration of the opening event to ensure the safety, comfort and security of the animal – in addition to our local distributor staff and motor show visitors. The following days of the motor show, the live animals were replaced with robotic ones. We appreciate your feedback and will share it with our teams who will take it into consideration when planning future events.
