Surprise! The Kia World Cup round-up July 14th, 2014
When it comes to
sports, Kia takes things pretty seriously. As the official sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, we had the chance to celebrate this mega sporting event with football fans from all over the world this year. Over the past month, there were indeed many surprises in Brazil, as superstar teams went head-to-head for the title of best national football team in the world. Congratulations to Germany, who claimed the FIFA World Cup Trophy and have been named the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ champions following a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final match.
As the football festivities slowly come to an end, we wanted to take a look back on the variety of Kia-sponsored events held for our fans, tied together with the underlying theme of ‘Surprises Make Surprises.’ We not only believe in the power to surprise, but also that the surprises coming out of mega sporting events like the World Cup, and how these can lead to even greater surprises!
So we thought—how could we incorporate this surprise element into our World Cup campaigns? To kick off our World Cup activities, we first surprised our younger fans with the Kia Mascot Friends program, partnering with Make-A-Wish Foundation to surprise five young football fans with the opportunity to step onto the field with Fuleco, the official mascot, during halftime. To prove that the spirit of football really does bring together many fans from all over the world, we held our Kia Champ into the Arena futsal tournament finals in Brazil, bringing together 122 futsal (5-a-side football) players from 19 countries to compete for the Kia Champ into the Arena 2014 World Champion title. In the end, Jordan came out on top, followed by Malaysia. The winning team was awarded with a trophy and skybox tickets to the World Cup quarterfinals match between the Netherlands and Costa Rica.
We were eager to give Kia fans a surprise trip to Brazil as well. So on the Kia Motors Worldwide Facebook page, we conducted the #TakeMeToBrazil photo contest in which fans with the best World Cup cheer photos won tickets to go to Brazil. We had a hard time choosing out of so many creative entries, but take a look below at our five winners’ photos!
And as a proud official sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, we wanted to showcase true football stories from all over the world that showed how a sport could have a surprising impact on the world. Cue the surprising story of Crown Trace FC, a youth football club that changed the surrounding community for the better and inspired the world simply through the spirit of football. Just because the World Cup is over, doesn’t mean that the surprise is. The story of Crown Trace FC proved to the world that one surprise can lead to more surprises.
