Columbian Autocar Corporation (CAC), the sole distributor of Kia vehicles in the Philippines, joined the 2nd Philippine International Motor Show on August 21-24, 2008, at the World Trade Center in Metro Manila. Sixteen other powerful global auto brands also participated represented by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) members to showcase their current line-up and future concept vehicles.
For Kia, CAC displayed our current vehicle line-up available in the Philippines in the 400 sqm free space: the Kia Picanto, Rio Sedan, Carens, Sportage, Sorento and Carnival. Also on display for public viewing were the Mohave (known as Borrego in some markets) and our Sportage FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) vehicles.
CAC has reported a sales jump of 75% from January to June of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007, the highest growth reported in the industry, making it the fastest growing automotive brand in the country. It was no wonder the vehicles at the show were so well received by Filipino car enthusiasts!
In addition to the general audience’s interest, the Kia booth had a special visitor take a peak at Kia’s eco-friendly technologies. President Gloria Arroyo is a staunch supporter of a proposed Biofuels Act in the Philippines, and took a strong interest in what the Kia Sportage FCEV could mean to the country, not to mention the rest of the planet.
I have attached some photos of the event and a link to a newspaper article featuring President Arroyo’s visit which some bloggers might find interesting.
