Showcasing K5 at the Busan Motor Show May 31st, 2010

A few weeks ago, Kia Motors introduced the K5 at the Busan International Motor Show. K5 is the local name for the Kia Optima which saw its global premiere at the New York Auto Show earlier this year to rave reviews from press and public, alike.

The striking visage of the Optima features a new interpretation of Kia’s bold ‘tiger’ family face. It’s also a little edgier with the piercing projector headlamps. The vehicle is spacious, with class-leading levels of safety and luxury equipment, and intelligently configured for the driver. We think our Optima underlines a newly found poise and presence. What do you think?

If you didn’t have the chance to see the new car at Busan’s Motor show, we’ve prepared a short clip along with the local advertisement. Enjoy!

when will this model be available at dealers in Canada and US and will we get all the features shown in the video?

  • BernardP

Congratulations to Kia and especially to Chief Designer Peter Schreyer: The new Optima looks much better than its Hyundai Sonata sibling. The Sonata has the generic Toyota/Mazda-like “giant-smiling-mouth” front and droopy rear, while the Optima has a crisp and aggressive Euro look.

  • Hello T. Smith –> The Optima will be available in Canada and US in early 2011. Not all the features shown in the video will be available for the North American market, the two features that will be unavailable are the LED position lamp and the static bending light (aka cornering lamp). The good news, though, is that your market will get other features not mentioned in the video, like a stronger powertrain!

You’ll have to stay tuned for more info a little later in the year about the car and its availability, though. Kia Canada Inc. & Kia Motors America will share when the time is right!

Great looking car. Will we see it here in Australia?

  • I’m happy.
    beacause of K5
    I expected this car
    Congratulations!
    I have Questian
why that cars name is k5?

  • @soobacba — K5 is the name in Korea. K is for Kia and the 5 marks that it is a mid-size sedan. K7 is a little bigger than the K5. In overseas markets, it will be called Optima.

@Geoff — The Optima should become available around December this year in Australia.

“The Optima will be available in Canada and US in early 2011.”

Pamela I had been hearing Fall 2010 for the Kia Optima in the US with the Hybrid version due early 2011, can you confirm or deny that? I’m especially interested in the turbo.

  • Hello Dash –> You’re right, Optima in the US will be in late fall. The Hybrid version will be in early 2011.

  • Kia are building some great cars, very reliable. They have improved vastly over the last few years.
