The first official photos of the next generation Picanto! January 4th, 2011

Here are the first official photos of the next generation of Picanto which will offer a bolder, more mature and more self confident look.

Completely redesigned and re-engineered, the new car has grown in overall length and wheelbase and is set to redefine its position as one of the most competitive vehicles in its segment.

While the current Picanto is available only as a five-door hatchback, the next generation version will be offered as a five-door globally while a sportier three-door body style will also be marketed in Europe.

The new Picanto will feature four all-new powertrains in 1.0- and 1.2-liter displacements, all boasting class leading CO2 emissions levels. In addition to petrol engines, LPG bi-fuel and flex fuel variations will be available depending on market.

The next generation Picanto will be officially unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2011.

Will it be available in the US? I hope it will, small cars make a lot of sense in the city.

This new Picanto has not only grown in design, it has finally started to show it’s class and style in the 1.0- to 1.2-litre segment.
Although I have yet to test drive one, the look alone has much to offer and it definitely look promising.
I have previously owned a first generation Picanto but to be honest, this Caren lookalike is more appealing to me.
Hopefully, the interior will look as good as it’s exterior and that it will sit more comfortably at the rear for the passengers.
Definitely gonna give the new Picanto a good test drive and own it if possible.

Awesome ! .. but looks a lot like Citroen C1

  • This will hit the market.

Offered as a five-door globally!? Finally Kia has come to its senses and will offer this car in the US! This must be approximately the size of the Aveo, which sells pretty well. Can’t wait, it will look good next to my Sedona, Amanti, Optima, and Rondo.

@ Laurent J. Masson and Greg,

I’m sorry to make you disappointed, but new Picanto won’t be available in the U.S., Canada and Australia.
Those subsidiaries haven’t been considering the new Picanto for their market.

I will forward your comment them though.
    Thanks,

  • @Sowapl
It will be 1st March at the Geneva motor show.

  • What specific countries is it set for? South Korea and the Far-East or are you planning on Europe too?

  • ReptileSoul

Kia Canada, needs to be proactive in bringing this model to Canada, with the smart and now the new Fiat 500, I think there is proof that there is a market for this car, especially in highly populated areas, such as the downtown cores where cars aren’t a necessity and the trend for smaller cars is gaining popularity.

  • Makes sense, and it should do pretty well in emerging economies in Asia and South Africa.

  • Zanele

When will this car be available in South Africa?
